History of Product Innovation

Barco has long been a leader in the development of rotary unions and swivel joints that shape our industry today.

Late 1950's

Type E75. Water Service Rotary Union for the rubber, plastic and printing industries. The first long-life water union.

1958

Type C Patent. Seals and widely spaced bearings both under compression, and a special spherical seal design that allows for movement in all directions without leakage.

1966

Type D. New machine tool coolant union.

1969

Type E1. The first generation of air-hydraulic rotary unions. Small size fits space-restricted installations.

1978

Type GR Patent. Rotary joint for paper machine dryers with rotary siphons. Featured seals under compression and widely spaced bearings.

1980

One-Inch GR Patent. A smaller GR for hig- pressure steam textile draw stands.

1981

Type E80 Patent. A singe-bearing water union featuring replaceable carbon graphite to ceramic seal for the printing industry.

1982

Super G. Steam Rotary Union for corrugators featuring antimony impregnated seals and bearings

1986

Type EC Patent. Large capacity shock resistant water unions for paper machine calendars

Type TBR Patent. Paper machine dryer joint with mechanical face seals

1988

Series 600 Injected SAS. Rotary and angular motion with positive sealing. Extended operating ranges to 300 PSI-800°F steam service.

1990

E75 RS & E75 RSX.The second generation of water unions with dry run capability featuring Reliable Service, Repair Simplicity and Replaceable Seals.

1995

Type BLS Patent. Bearingless coolant union for
high speed, multi-spindle heads and independent
box spindles.

Type SFL.Unique, sealed-for-life bearing design in an self-supported coolant union for automotive transfer machining lines.

1997

New Style E1.The second generation of air-hydraulic unions offered improved performance on high pressure hydraulic applications.

1998

2-1/2-in. E75 RS & 3-in. E75 RS.The first large capacity water unions with silicon carbide to carbon seals for the rubber, plastics and steel processing industries.

2005

Type GRX.Paper machine dryer joint with replaceable seat/bearing cartridge and long life antimony impregnated seals and bearings.

2010

Type E-2.The next generation of air unions designed for the harshest environments on air clutches and brakes and other applications. Features easy field repair with an in expensive seal kit.
