Ready or not, here they come....
For many of us the busiest time of the year is quickly approaching. Presents to buy and wrap decorations to put up, food and goodies to prepare. Since this newsletter will be going out to many different countries I thought it would be interesting to see how some of our other colleagues celebrate the season.
In Germany and France like many European countries, on Dec. 5 the children leave their shoes outside the door. If they have been good throughout the year on Dec. 6th Nikolaustag (in Germany) and Pere Noel (in France) leave them sweets and gifts. If they have been bad throughout the year he leaves them twigs of a rod. Then on Christmas day Weihnachtsmann (German Santa) and again Pere Noel brings the children gifts.
For Australia Santa Claus comes on Christmas Eve just like he does in the United States and brings gifts to the children who have been good all year. The only difference is the festivities are all held outside for they are in the middle of their summer months.
This just gives us a little insight into what some of the other countries do for the Christmas holidays. It seems the one thing we all have in common is that we spend time with our family and friends. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad, Buone Feste Natalizie, En frehlicher Grischtdaag un en hallich Nei Yaahr.
